Samaipata, Bolivia

Most Dangerous Road?

sunny 95 °F

The wind is blowing 25-50mph from the north which means it is HOT. North wind means hot??? Gotta love the difference in the southern hemisphere.

After figuring out our ATM cards didn't work we were off to a small town in the Andes mountains called Samaipata. Carlos Sanchez is the person who is helping us as we speak in schools in Bolivia. Without him, these gringos would have been completely lost and hungry. Carlos did an excellent job navigating the not so excellent Bolivian roads. I asked Carlos if the tolls they were collecting were to go to NOT fix the roads. It reminded me a lot of Chicago where potholes can swallow your car. Literally, the road to the mountains would go from paved to dirt with major potholes in the blink of an eye. And this isnt even the "most dangerous road". Carlos said he wouldn't drive on that road but then also said every road in Bolivia is dangerous (drinking and driving and chewing on coca leaves is apparently a bad combo).

We made it to a waterfall where the 3 kids and Chris jumped in and swam. Katie and Carlos...not so much.
