Today we visited 6 classrooms and had the opportunity to share with the kids about life in the US as well as living life on purpose. We elected to go with a format where Chris interviews each of the kids and asks one of our kids about their life in the US. After a series of extremely short answers, Chris then talks about purpose and how we can live our lives with eternal purpose. The door is wide open to share about Jesus so naturally we took it. Even the kids got in on the fun asking the jam packed classrooms "Do you have Jesus living in your heart?" In each of the classrooms we prayed with the students and ask them if they wanted to receive Jesus into their heart.
After our 2nd classroom the principal had Bolivian coffee and snacks. While we were in the principal's office, the kids did what they do best...play. Lucy and Abby were playing with a jump rope of sorts and Jake was taking on some of Latin Americas future stars in soccer. After time in the principals office, one of the kids from the school got the idea to have us sign autographs. That was the straw that broke the camels back, as we were literally mobbed by paper and pens being thrown in our faces. Jake was quoted as saying "I had to sign my way out of that mob!!!" It was absolute comedy to see Jake scrawling his J-A-K-E on the pieces of paper.
The afternoon was a repeat performance of the morning. As we roll up to the school, Carlos informs us nonchalantly "There was a kid that was killed here 3 weeks ago. You guys ready???" "Uh...Yeah, we're ready" while Chris is thinking "I hope Katie didn't hear that." We enter the school to a swarming mob touching, pressing, and laughing around us. Katie described it as "almost claustrophobic." At least there were no autograph hounds here as Jake's hand was suffering from writing cramps. Wonder if that counts for some sort of Language Arts for home schooling?
The final act of the day was brilliant. Chris is downstairs pretending all the kids are actually obeying and staying in their beds while Katie is gabbing away about how Cody is doing back at "dogs gone wild"...errrr...Monte and Suzie's house when Lineke (the Malloys 6 year old daughter) breaks into tears. Nothing we haven't heard before right? Chris rolls up there to find blood gushing out of Lineke's mouth with Roxanne doing her best ER impersonation trying to stem the bleeding. We all conclude that Lineke needs stitches and needs to go to the hospital so we give Carlos (who also happens to be an ex firefighter) a shout and he is at the house in a few minutes. Carlos, recognizing the wound to be borderline and not wanting to spend the entire evening in a Bolivian hospital pronounces Lineke's mouth just fine much to Linekes satisfaction.
